Minky Stapleton, originally from South Africa, has made her home in New Zealand for the past 7 years.
She spent her formative years honing her conceptual skills as an award-winning Art Director, and later as a Creative Director in some of the best advertising agencies in South Africa. Minky gave it up to follow her first love, illustration, after the birth of her first child.
Minky is a multi-disciplined illustrator with range of styles from serious to silly, all with a heavy dash of dark humour. It is a style that is both a homage to her Afrikaans roots and a continuing evolution that comes from the influences of her global travels.
In 2018 she was invited to exhibit at RARE in Sydney, Australia. She exhibited The tale of Shrou and Neu, a beautiful dystopian love story where each page was printed on a series of 68 T-shirts.
For the past 5 years she has put her stamp on the New Zealand publishing landscape with the publication of several children’s books and book covers. In 2019, Minky was shortlisted for a New Zealand Book Award for Things in the Sea are Touching Me.
