Philippa Bentley is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Auckland, with ecology and environmental concerns at the heart of her work.
Philippa has been working professionally as an artist for over 15 years and exhibits regularly. She has won awards in painting, printmaking and design, and been a finalist in a number of New Zealand and international art awards. Generally concept driven, her artwork frequently references layers or collections and contains an image within an image.
She is developing a body of work on nautical charts, her ‘paper seas’, which reflects on climate change and our essential and changing relationship with the natural world.
Philippa works with a range of media and processes at the intersection of art, design, science and technology. Augmented Reality (AR) has been part of her art practice since 2014 and is incorporated in this tail.
Philippa spends much of her time outdoors, gardening or sailing. Having sailed with Bryde’s whales on the Hauraki Gulf, she has a keenly felt personal connection with caring for the ocean and the Whale Tales project.
