Design Inspiration

Inspired by the tāiko / black petrel, a taonga of Te Moananui-ā-Toi / Tīkapa Moana / Hauraki Gulf as they only breed on Aotea / Great Barrier and Te Hauturu-o-Toi / Little Barrier islands. The tāiko are taking flight from Aotea at sunset, as they head to sea to feed during the night, before returning to Aotea at sunrise where they burrow during the day. They have been drawn as a simple black connecting line symbolising the interconnectedness of this species with our whenua and moana.
