I have named this piece Te Koha, The Gift. We should not take what we have i.e. Tīkapa Moana (the Hauraki Gulf) for granted. We are mere transient visitors to this invaluable asset. With over 50 islands, the gulf waters are home to dolphins, orca, snapper, the Bryde’s whale and numerous other fish and sea life. Kayaking on the gulf and up the estuaries is one of my greatest pleasures. Not only does the beauty of our environment amaze me, but it also inspires me to create some of my current art pieces. Effective conservation is a lifetime commitment that needs constant care and vigilance. Change lies with you and me and all of us.
