In 2021, our school learned about our local environment. We looked at our school pepeha, from our waka Mahuhu-ki-te-rangi to our moana, the Waitematā Harbour. We learned about the stories of Ureia, our very own taniwha, who swam in the once-abundant Waitemata. The stories connected us to the history of the people and the land, but also the history of our moana. Then we explored what the state of the Waitematā was in the past and what is happening now so we can work out how to solve problems for the future.
