Birkenhead Village… the Village with a view, is delighted to support the endangered sea treasures “taonga” of our precious Hauraki Gulf through this World Wildlife Fund and Wild in Art “ Whales Tale “ Art Trail. From our unique hilltop location the glistening waters of the Waitemata lie before us from every Vista. The Village is blessed by nature as the natural location of Auckland City’s only inner city rainforest, bursting with native flora, fauna and freshwater creatures and a waterfall that runs freely from hilltop to sea. With a 45 second entry directly from the heart of the Village you can enjoy the treasures of past generations A highlight is the waterfall and stream in Le Roys bush /Wai Manawa which is home to eels and native kokopu. The Kokopu is unique in that it is one of only 5 species in the world that come out of the water to feed on insects on the river bank. At night the river bank also glimmers with glow worms. A treasured local secret!
We look forward to welcoming you in the Village soon!
